Tree of Inspiration
Outstanding Local Educators Recognized in Ongoing Art Installation
On October 11, 2022, FAME GC unveiled a dramatic new art installation in the lobby of Glen Cove High School. The Tree of Inspiration was envisioned by Valerie Lasser and her husband Michael Lasser, both proud GCHS alumni.
During the inaugural ceremony, handcrafted wooden leaves were revealed to honor beloved educators Dale Alan Zurbrick, Sally A. Zwiebach, and Thom Ruckert, with scholarships announced in their names. Alumni Linda Cirigliano, Beth Corets, Judi Germano, and Mark Charles Avellino-Misilli shared moving reflections on these storied teachers, as well as on Albert A.J., whose leaf was added and celebrated in a second ceremony on November 29, 2023.
This tradition continued when Current Director of Choral Music, Ed Norris, received his leaf on December 17, 2024. Another inductee will be added to the Tree of Inspiration in 2025.
This permanent installation is designed to grow over time, serving as both a tribute to extraordinary educators and an inspiration for the Glen Cove Public School community. New leaves will be added periodically to honor those who make a lasting impact.
